home in the rain! Holy buckets! Of rain!
Left the plantation after checking the radar and knew it was going to be a rough ride but this was ridiculous. Thought that by going up 45, I’d have a chance to circle around it but just before 96, the crosswinds started pushing me two or three feet over at a whack. Scary stuff, so I exited and headed east on 96.
The rain was so thick I couldn’t see 10 feet. And I need to attend one of The Dude’s Boy Scout training sessions ’cause Boy Scout, I ain’t. Did have my rain suit but that was about it. No goggles. No face shield. Didn’t wear my riding boots (waterproof) today.
Finally pulled into a convenience store after 4 or 5 miles of 10 mph (at best) sloshing through water. At times it was so deep it went over my exhaust pipes. The rain STINGS like crazy on your face and in your eyes when it’s coming down that hard. The lightning and thunder was pretty scary too.
Just as I pulled under the shelter by the gas pumps, lightning struck a transformer and KaBOOM! Would’ve wet my britches if I had been on the road next to that sucker. Smoke was billowing out in the pouring rain.
A fellow biker pulled in shortly after me and we hung out until the biggest part had passed, then headed on to the park. A 30 minute commute turned into 90. Every piece of cloth on me was soaked.
What a blast!
