Katrina movie. I was Left Behind! Well, not quite like that but it felt that way. SU was out shopping and running late, so she called and said she’d meet me at the church. I lollygagged around for a bit, then went on up there. Drove in the parking lot at 5:34pm, turned in directly in front of the rented bus, looped around the parking lot and parked one row over and facing the church bus.
Thought it was odd that the busses seemed to be full but really, it isn’t that unusual, everyone likes to get a seat early and we were scheduled to leave at 6pm. As there were some great tunes playing on KPFT’s Joe’s Road House, I just sat in the Beast chillin’. All of a sudden, at 5:43pm, I see the busses start to move. So I kill the Beast, hop out and start running across the parking lot, frantically waving my arms to no avail. I was left behind.
Oh well, now I had a choice to make. I could wait for SU, as she was only about 5 minutes away, and we could drive down and meet them there. Or, we could head to the remote, order the Del Mar and then head home to watch a movie. Ha. That was fairly easy.
Ended up watching The Last King of Scotland, with Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin. Pretty decent movie, I suppose the best way to describe it would be to say that ambition can trump any and all sensibilities a man might have. And then you reach a point where you realize what you’ve done but there is no way to escape from it. Only you do. And begin the process of tearing down that which you’ve build. Good flick.
I thought class was good today. It sure is fun with JM back up there playing, makes it much easier and more relaxed. Our class discussion was fair, it seems like every time I really enjoy the material, I just can’t ask the right questions that elicit the best discussion. But, I try. This guy, Ray Steadman, he’s good. I’m going to purchase the book, Authentic Christianity, that our material is based upon and read it through. Reminds me of Brennan Manning with a more structured approach.
BT came and played the organ again today, which was a nice surprise. SU likes it when we are both up there. After church we all went to Dinner Bell for lunch. All in all, a pretty good day at church.
Oh, yeah, about those tunes on Joe’s Roadhouse. I was jamming to Brian Setzer when I was left behind in a cloud of diesel fumes.
