Again with another fallen Christian in the public spotlight. Gotta brace myself for the plethora of news articles and blogs about the now former pastor of New Life Church, Ted Haggard. Of course, the reason is not that he is a fallen pastor, sucked in by whatever temptation turns out to be true, the true reason is that he is/was also president of a “Christian” group called the National Association of Evangelicals that maintains a very high profile political arm.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Christians should not be forming “Christian” political groups. Period. This is just another opportunity for non-Christians to point their fingers at all Christians as hypocritical. Matters not that this group and all others like it have zero to do with Christ – it only matters that they do their politicking under the guise of Christianity.
Had this pastor been one of the many humble servants that go through their daily lives trying to live as Christ, only to be overcome by one of the many temptations in life, there would be no national uproar, no punditry, no sophistry, no outrage, no political partisianship, nothing. Only a chance for the people directly hurt (him, his family, his congregation) to heal, to put into practice the compassion that is wholly and fully Christ.
Such a shame. Just don’t forget, in your zeal to pile on, that Ted Haggard and his family really do need your prayers.

Big Jolly, I’m liking the blog. Interesting point, that we as Christian’s are supposed to strive for “Christ Like” behavior…so maybe we should take a closer examination of when Christ said, “my kingdom is not of this world”. The marriage of church and state is the whore of Babylon riding on the back of the political beast in Revelation 17.

BigJolly – I posted my thoughts on that here. Let me know what you think…

Oh what a difference our world would be if we become true Antioch Christians….and the hard part is that it begins with ME

It took me awhile to figure out what you meant by Antioch Christian. I found this in the Easton Dictionary –
Excellent observation! I’ve been spinning something around in my mind from a quote by John MacArthur – when did churches change their focal point from teaching to attracting unbelievers?
