Went to the Aeros game

David Jennings · March 25, 2007 · 2 Comments

last night but it wasn’t much of a “game”. First, I don’t understand the rules of hockey so it is difficult to watch it. I mean, what is up with the substitution patterns? Guys coming and going with no apparent reason. Second, anyone that thinks the league doesn’t promote fighting hasn’t been to a game. The pre-game highlight reel was at least 50% fighting. Third, the Aeros looked like they were a half-step behind the other guys the entire night. Got blown out 10-2, which, according to the Houston Chronicle, is a record of sorts. Not a good record but a record nonetheless.

But it was a fun night. We went with a couple from church that we haven’t been out with before and had a great time at dinner. Although I don’t recommend Willie’s Grill and Icehouse on the SE Beltway. Food was mediocre at best and the crowd was, um, shall we say more interested in the liquids than the food?

We arrived at the Toyota Center an hour before game time so we decided to walk around outside. There is a park directly across from the Center that has been there for years but was transformed into a basketball park when the Center was built. Very cool court, nothing like the uneven concrete slabs we played on as kids. Cool setting with the tall buildings in the background. Nice.

The Aeros have a very dumb policy of not allowing certain size cameras in, of which I was unaware and thus brought the wrong camera. Had to go back to the car and lock it up. It is a stupid policy – they need publicity. They have nothing to lose by allowing people to take decent photos to show their friends and much to gain. But alas, some genius has decided that a poster sale at the gift shop is worth a couple of thousand people seeing some action photos and buying a ticket. Go figure.

Too funny! I was there ( Sec 106 Row 8 ) and thought it was most amusing to watch the hapless Aeros during their “power play”…every time the Omaha team scored a point…so much for the Aeros Power Play!

Talk about close encounters. We were in section 107, row 14.
