I figured out the problem with my Linux box – the BIOS was so old it wouldn’t recognize any drives larger than 136 gig – so, I squinted real hard and found out the motherboard model – Gigabyte GA-81RM, logged on to their website and found the revision. The bios in the machine was rev 3, the latest was rev 8. So I d/l’d it and flashed the eprom – shazaam, new machine. It also addressed some problems I was having with the USB ports. Nothing like a 6 year old machine to give you fits. So, since it was all updated, I decided, what the heck, I’ll make it a quad boot – Windows on a small hard drive, three flavors of Linux on the big one. Loading it as we speak and typing this on Pinkie via wireless internet. Late.
