on the subject of churches and money: why don’t we do more for folks in need? You know, hungry, needy, homeless, etc.? It’s a crying shame when you look at our churches budget and see nothing in those accounts. Yes, I do think that our church is doing a very good ministry right now but I also think we can increase our efforts by reaching out and financially helping people as a church.
You know, I went to my other church last night, Katie’s in Bacliff and what do you know? Yep, another benefit, this time to help out the drummer for the Pee Wee Bowen band who has been ill, has some sort of weird infection that is killing him, no insurance and bill collectors calling day and night. The band donated their time (not cheap, a full, popular 6 piece band), Katie’s dontated 100% of the money from all food sales and many items were donated to be auction. There was also a 50/50 pot, where you buy a ticket for a buck, then all tickets are placed in a pot and one pulled, with the winner splitting the pot of money with the benefitee (is that a word?). In this case, as in most all cases, the winner donated the money back to the pot.
Wonder what would happen if we, as a church, treated our members as well as Pee Wee and live music lovers do? I know many in our church that could use that kind of help. Late.
