is already here! The week seemed to fly by, I guess because of the holiday in the middle.
We watched a strange movie called The Visitation, an adaptation of Frank Peretti’s novel of the same name on our traditional date night Thursday. I doubt it will interest very many people outside of the Church. It’s all about things spiritual and demonic possession, things that most people, including most believers, do not believe.
I thought that they did about as well as could be expected in adapting something like this book. I remember reading the book a few years ago and it does make you think about certain things in your life.
Then last night, we watched Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto, once again, a very strange movie. Breathtaking in the cinematography and costumes. Actually turned out to be a very interesting movie but I never quit got the point he was trying to make with it, if he had one.
Ostensibly, it is a feature about the decline of the Mayan culture. It does a great job of showing the evil in man but that’s about it. And it does very, very well in that regard. And it didn’t even take the white man to corrupt the natives. Go figure.
I’m still stunned at the words of Alan Keyes at the Vision America conference.
Matthew 5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘hate your enemy.’ 5:44 But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you, 5:45 so that you may be like your Father in heaven, since he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 5:46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors do the same, don’t they? 5:47 And if you only greet your brothers, what more do you do? Even the Gentiles do the same, don’t they? 5:48 So then, be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Proverbs 25:21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink, 25:22 for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the Lord will reward you.
God gave us a solution to our political problems in the United States that goes ignored in these churches that have turned their congregations into mini-PACS (or many PACS).
The Master said, “Render unto Caesar what is due Caesar and render unto God what is due God.”
So here we are in a nation that (in my opinion) has turned her back on God. We have churches and well meaning Christians in the streets protesting doing as the “gentiles” do. It seems to me that these folks have forgotten two very important lessons:
So here we are in our mortal earthly minds looking at what is obvious problem in our governing body just what ARE we supposed to do? How or what do we render unto God in days and times like these? Well we go back to HIS promises. Here is the Master’s answer:
Jesus confirms that God is in control over our government when he said to Pilate:
I don’t know about much, but what I know is that we get the government that we deserve based on the “faith” of God’s children. I could cite Old Testament examples but for brevity I won’t. I wonder where some folks put their “faith”. In the word of the living God or the government that man has created?
We live in a country that allows us to choose our leaders and I believe that it behooves us to demand better through our vote and that our vote should not be cast without prayer filled thought. But that is an argument or discussion for another day.
I think well meaning Christians (including myself) do things that are just not necessary.
I don’t think you’ll get much objection to your last statement, that Christians do things that are just not necessary.
I think that one of the effects of our increased reliance upon welfare has been that people do put their faith in government. And that begets more government.
The question that I ask is this: if Christians had acted upon their faith, would we have ever gone down the path of welfare?
No
The Master addresses those that would depend on welfare either legitimately or not and what “we” should do.
The “light” has been hidden, you might say, for a long time.
Agreed and that goes back to the beginning of our country. It never ceases to amaze me when people speak of our founding fathers through rose colored glasses.
You know, you could get a lot more comments if you didn’t talk about yourself. Sometimes you say some really good shit but most of the time you talk about yourself and the trailer you live in. Do you really think it helps to let people know you live in a trailer? You ever heard of trailer trash?
Seriously, I like reading your stuff. Except your stuff. You know? Just talk about one subject and word will spread. You’re a smart dude and sometimes I tell people about your Bible comments because you say things in a way that means something to me. But I don’t care about your personal life.
Well, what can I say? I started doing this stuff years before it was the thing to do. And when “web log” meant a personal journal. Most of it was deleted in haste but three years or so of my life, in a fashion, are now online. And with Google, will never be deleted. You try it. 🙂
But to your point, I’m shocked at the number of unique daily visitors myself. I’d never have thunk it. And as you have observed, I could have more. But that isn’t the point and no, I’m not going to change. With approximately 1.93 bizillion weblogs out there, surely you can find one you like.
As for the trailer remarks, SU doesn’t like it either. Because we don’t actually live in a trailer. That is my point. If it troubles you that people that live in trailers have thoughts, you need to change the channel.
Mostly, I just type about my day. Because I like to know about other person’s days. What I find is that few people are willing to open their lives up like this. That’s okay with me, like I said, it’s just me! 🙂
If you are ever in the SE Houston area, shoot me an email. Love to talk to you.
like I said, I was just trying to help you! you could make some cash, my friend. Unique name, somewhat unique comments about the bible. just stay away from the personal stuff.
from your posts, i gather that you are one of the many protestatnt believers. so, what do you think about the pope saying that you are going to hell? and yes, he did say that so don’t try to escape by some sort of word play. or would you rather talk about date night with your wife? what is that about? everyone dates there wife.
Yeah, I’m a Protestant, I suppose, whatever that means. I prefer to say that I’m a part of the Church, the body of Christ.
Sorry, not going to say anything bad about the pope. I respect the man. And if he says that I have no path to salvation, I need to think about that.
And no, not everyone dates their wife. Unfortunately.
So you will take a potshot at a preacher from Copperfield inviting some rappers into their building but you’ll say nothing against a man that reigns over billions taken from dirt poor people? One that says he is the only way to salvation?
In other words, the guy is telling you that you will see Satan’s eyes when you wake up in hell. And you say you respect that man?
Maybe you should just talk about dating your wife.
Please change the channel. There must be something you enjoy reading out there in cyberspace. No need to bug me.
I am a voyeur. I enjoy reading and hearing about your life. It helps me to learn about “the man”,
Darnit… premature “add comment”.
Shoulda said “learn about “the man” bigjolly.
And to all who read Big Jolly..to know him is to love him! His family is getting to know him through his blog…we love all of it!
Sounds like someone is in some deep personal pain there BigJolly, thanks for handling that with understanding and warmth
