When God Speaks: How to Recognize God’s Voice and Respond in Obedience
Well, it is finally here. After six weeks of daily M-F study, CH, LB and I have reached the end of our study, When God Speaks. It’s been a powerful, eye opening six weeks for all three of us, perhaps I’ll talk more about that after our weekly recap tomorrow.
Today’s study is about the end goal of God’s reason for speaking to us, which is to help us to become more like Christ so that He can do His work and accomplish His purposes through us.
Romans 8:29 because those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
Ephesians 4:13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God – a mature person, attaining to16 the measure of Christ’s full stature.
Colossian 1:28 We proclaim him by instructing and teaching all people with all wisdom so that we may present every person mature in Christ.
Colossians 2:6-7,9-10 Therefore, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and firm in your faith just as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. For in him all the fullness of deity lives in bodily form and you have been filled in him, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
As I read the study today, I was reminded of all of the people in my congregation that have made a difference in my walk with Christ. Sure, the teachers I had as a kid were influential and are probably the reason that I have some foundation but for the most part the people that made the difference never even knew it.
It’s the people that live the life daily, going about their business without fanfare, without putting themselves up on a pedestal that make the biggest difference. The guy opening the door every week as we enter. The people making and serving coffee. The sweet smile of the widow. The firm handshake of the quiet deacon. Let other believers help the Holy Spirit to mold you into the person God wants you to be!
Do not underestimate the capability your church has to bring your life to Christ-likeness.
And with that, it is finished.
