church yesterday, both in class and in worship. Although worship wasn’t worship, it was a concert. First though, we relocated our class to a smaller room to give the growing class more space. The structure of that sentence wasn’t so good, perhaps I should take an ESL class as my primary language is Texan. Thoughts are jumbled today. As I was saying, we moved and the smaller room will take a bit of getting used to. And we had a good sized group decide to show up, around 30. But the other guys had 45, so it worked out very well. Funny thing is several of the pillars of the church were taking my temp to see if everything was okay, as if it were a slap down or something. Hey, it was my idea. Frankly, I don’t want our class to be much larger, it takes so much away from the intimacy.
Back to the worship/non-worship, the concert was by a guy named Brad White. Excellent musician and it was a good time. But it wasn’t worship. And it was rather unsettling when he took time in the middle of the program to discuss his CD’s for sale. When and why did we reach this point? A perfectly good celebration of Jesus interrupted by 5 minutes of talk about products that let you take Jesus home with you. Yuk.
One of the guys in my class invited SU and I over for lunch afterwards, that was really nice. Enjoyed it a lot. Then the Sunday nap, which turned into an all afternooner because SU went shopping and wasn’t there to wake me!
When I finally did rouse myself, it was time to head to church again. Just when you think that you are wasting your time, spinning your wheels, etc., something comes along to make it all worthwhile. And last night was one of those nights. A woman that has not led such an exemplary life turned toward the Lord and last night she was baptized into the faith. Yeah, it’s worth it.
