missed church in a while. And I miss the prayer time and discussion in the men’s class that I’ve become used to. JM sent me a quick note that everything went well. Bummer. I hoped that it would fall apart and everyone would really miss me! Just kidding (sort of).
Went to Beaumont today with # 2 for a concert. It is really amazing how well the high school orchestra sounds. Of course, these are kind of the best of the best (or at least the best of those that can afford to go to a camp like this). I didn’t really care for the first 2 numbers, but the Dvorak was well done.
Whilst SU and I were in our 3 hour “layover”, we had lunch at Don’s Seafood, a landmark in Beaumont. Very good food, service wasn’t so great. I really, really didn’t want to tip the waitress, but SU made a good argument for her. Personally, I would rather have not tipped her and told her why, but SU reminisced about the days when her mom was a waitress and how hard it was. I suppose that this waitress could have been having one of those off days and she probably wasn’t as bad as I thought (I tend to the “theoretical” side when it comes to customer service). SU has a heart as big as a mountain and I’m carrying around a pebble.
After lunch we drove around the city, it has really gone down. They are trying to revitalize the downtown area but it is very easy to see that it was a classic case of an oil well running dry. Did find lots of neat old buildings that were empty, wouldn’t it be cool to renovate one for a living space?
We passed a church that has a great name: Peaceful Rest Baptist Church. Wow, if we could only live up to that name. Wouldn’t it be great if you went to church and had a peaceful rest (I’m not talking about falling asleep during the sermon, Nephew W). I’m talking about a true respite from the daily routine/grind. Maybe I’ll contemplate that more. After all, since the class didn’t fall apart this morning, perhaps I need to look for another job. Late.

Sounds as though you had a great weekend…although all that driving would have done a number on me!
If you find an old building in Htown, let me know…we want to renovate one to live in….funny how siblings have the same interest without ever talking about them!
