last night at Anderson Fair. JM and I went to listen to Shake Russell and Michael Hearne. It was so good we stayed for both sets and didn’t get home until the wee hours of the morning.
I was really stoked about seeing Shake, haven’t seen him live in years. And I was way surprised by Michael Hearne, that guy is great! He has a unique, cool voice and can play the guitar like all get out (old East Texas term for those of you in Rio Linde). I even bought a CD, highly unusual.
Sometimes a blast in the past sends us roaring into the future and I hope that is what this does for me. I need to somehow get a grip on the guitar and understand more about how to play. Hearne’s style was interesting, kind of a mix between Southern Blues, outlaw country and northern folk. Very well done!
The one classic that I waited for was worth the entire night, Deep in the West. The chorus is something that can solve a lot of problems, if only we applied it:
Are you listening to me, when I’m talking to you?
Said together we’re one, divided we’re through;
Divided we’re through.So hang onto me, and I’ll hang on to you.
Said together we’re one, divided we’re through;
Divided we’re through.

Tried to get into see him on Monday night at the Old Blinking Light but we didn’t have reservations (like, who knew?) and there was literally no room at the inn. It put a major damper on the evening but when we got back to the room and checked the local paper, I learned that he was playing on Wednesday night right down the street from where we were staying. Not only did we get to listen and chat with him, the Bigjolly even got to get up on the stage! […]
