Had a really good day

David Jennings · July 10, 2005 · 3 Comments

at church today! I like it when if feels right and it did today. The guys were in rare form and talked a whole lot, really good discussion. I think everyone participated today. Cool.

BIL was on time and brought a friend. His friend (KC) really has had a tough year. His wife committed suicide about 8 months ago, then his mom passed away a couple of months later. He hasn’t felt like going to his own church since his wife died, although they were regular attendees and participated in the youth sports program. He’s hurting, no doubt. I think that our class setup allows hurting people, male and female, to participate without being judged. The guys really made him feel comfortable; he told me as he was leaving that he feels motivated enough to try to go to his church again. That is what it is about!

Another member, DP, was back today, haven’t seen him in some time. He’s had his own problems and is in a program to help him recover from them. It is one of those places that requires the “guests” to attend a chapel service twice a day. The preachers are different each time, volunteers I suppose. Well, one of the preachers claimed to be a prophet and when our member said something (probably questioning that), the prophet pointed him out and told him to leave because he was full of the devil!

I thought that is why we were supposed to go to church, to try to remove the presence of Satan and get closer to God. Hmm. Guess I was wrong, only those that are already close to God need to attend. Late.

Guess I’d better stop going to church since I’m always saying “Get thee behind me, Satan!” (Wonder if Sharon or Daniel remember that song?)
Going to church helps strenthen me so that I can say that. It has been a GREAT day.

Of course…’Oh boy you better get outta my way…’
Great song..as true today as then…BJ probably doesn’t recall the song since he was not even a thought when that was sung…HA HA
Sorry to hear that the guy asked the fella to leave…how do these guys get asked to “preach.”

You are correct, SS1. Ella Fitzgerald released this in ’58, one year before the BJ! Of course, there could have been a twinkle in Pop’s eye.
