on the Marauder last night. On Wednesday, I installed a set of MAPAM forward controls but ran into a couple of problems and didn’t get finished. So when I got home yesterday, I fabricated a spring mount so that the brake light would work properly when using the rear brake. After I finished that, off I went.
Headed out about 5:30 pm, just in time for rush hour, part of my plan for experience. North on 146 and took the west exit to 225. This one goes up and over and has been intimidating to me, so this was a test. Wow, what a crosswind! I hadn’t noticed it since the wind was to my back but it was very, very strong and gusty. As I went through the turn, I had a difficult time holding my line using the out-in-out curve method. Basically, it was out-out-outer. Whew. And cars everywhere. Continuing on 225, the wind was at a 90 to me. Very, very breezy to say the least, getting pushed around, especially on overpasses. Fortunately, I was wearing my new HJC helmet. The full face helmet makes one heck of a difference on the freeway, that’s for sure. Plus, I have a mirrored face shield on it which helps with the sun. If I had been in my half-helmet, I might have pulled off the freeway.
Anyways, I got another 45 miles worth of experience under different conditions. So I felt good about that. Total time was about an hour and 45 minutes counting a few stops and fueling.
