I suppose that there are worse

David Jennings · June 12, 2007 · 6 Comments

things in life than lying on your back with people rushing around at your beck and call. So there’s no need to complain about it but some things do strike one as a bit unusual.

For instance, if you attempt to tape an IV to a person’s arm, said arm being covered with hair, and the tape doesn’t hold the IV in place, it would not occur to me to apply more tape on top of the tape that wasn’t holding the IV in the first place. But it must occur to others, for this happened not once, not twice, but three times. At the fourth bus stop, it occurred to someone that the hair itself might be the problem. After ripping large chunks of it out whilst removing the previous attempts, a razor took care of the rest and just like that, a single layer of tape holds the IV in place.

Or how about the menu in the Cardiac Care Unit? Hmm, seems all I ever hear is that beef is not one of those heart friendly foods so imagine my surprise at seeing a big ‘ol juicy burger, complete with a large portion of mayo, chips and Oreo cookies on the tray? Go figure.

Is it just me or do most health care workers need an enema?

Perhaps the burger was assurance that your heart was good to go….or perhaps the Cardiac Unit is trying to drum up some business??

Well BigJ, I was going to ask if the hairy arm in question was yours or Pop’s, but from Sharon’s comment, I’m guessing yours. Hope everything is going OK for you. I saw that you did the O.C. post on LST today, so hopefully that’s a sign that you’re back in action. I’ve been Jonesin’ for graphs.

    🙂

(that was a joke BTW, even if it was a poor one)

Well, you see, I was trying to do my best Fred Sanford imitation and SU took me seriously! Good news is that my ticker is now certified as good to go.

You should see the graphs on it!

Sometimes I wonder if the nurses in the hospital get special training on how to annoy, frustrate, and passive aggressively torture the patients.

Nurses sound a lot like commenters on blogs when you evaluate them from Duhmoose’s perspective.
