I’m telling you,

live music is the best way to remove yourself from a funk. And if you just can’t pull off actually going to a club, just pop in a Stevie Ray Vaughan DVD of one of his live perfomances. Tonight, it’s the Austin City Limits one. Awesome, awesome awesome.

Yngwie or Steve Vai can only pretend to be fast fingers. Wow, I’m all better.

I have a lot of friends a few years younger than me that were in awe of guys like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani because they were “fast”. I never really understood the fascination. Sure they were technical masters of the guitar. But that’s the thing – they were too technical; antiseptic and clinical. To put it plainly, there was no “soul”. Give me SRV or big brother Jimmie any day!

Exactly! It’s about the soul, brother. You gotta “feel” the groove. Technical stuff bores that crap out of me. One well timed, right pitched note sounds better than an hour of finger flying scales.
