illegal immigration, yesterday could be one of those days long remembered. Or not.
Turns out the gov’t raided 6 plants owned and operated by Swift & Co., a company that the BigJolly worked for during his frat days. There is much that is interesting about this story but a few highlights make me shake my head, which is a trademark of a former poster to the open comments of Lone Star Times.
agents began their initial sweep through Swift & Co. plants in six states, arresting illegal immigrants who had bought or stolen other people’s identities to help them get Swift jobs.
Now, if you were one of the person’s that had their identities stolen, you might be happy about this. Ya think? But the union thinks otherwise:
The United Food and Commercial International Workers union said it would ask federal judges in all six states to halt the raids.
Hmm. I’m guessin’ that none of the union bosses had their identities swiped. And absolutely, positively, Swift would never ever hire illegal’s or condone such because they said so:
In a written statement, President and CEO Sam Rovit said the company has never knowingly hired illegal workers and does not condone the practice.
But…hold on:
Immigration officials last month informed Swift that it would remove unauthorized workers on Dec. 4, but Swift asked a federal judge to prevent agents from conducting the raid, arguing it would cause “substantial and irreparable injury” to its business.
Hmm, why would they do that?
Swift estimated that a raid would remove up to 40 percent of its 13,000 workers.
But…but….if you don’t knowingly hire them, how can you estimate that 40 percent of your employees are illegal?
No wonder that dude shakes his head.
