when I’m visiting someone for the church and they try to shock me. This Tuesday, Pop and I made a couple of visits, really nothing out of the ordinary. At our second visit, the guy we’re tryiing to see was sick and couldn’t come to the door. For some reason the young guy that answered the door invited us in anyway to talk. We were discussing church, location, last time he’d been, invited him to my men’s bible study, etc., when he pulls the old, “well, I learned it in prison” line while looking directly at me to get my response. Suppose that this bothers some people but then, he doesn’t know that I was but a wee lad when Pop operated the juvenille delinquent home at our house. Or the shelter for drug addicts upstairs. I still remember the time my sister beat one of the juvis over the head with a cookie pan to get him off of me.
Anyways, like I was saying, he thought it would shock me. But without missing a beat, I told him I’d worked with better heathens than him so why doesn’t he come to the Bible study? And btw, last week I visited a guy who said the same thing and guess what? He was in church Sunday. So there. Not sure if he’ll come or not but it was kinda fun.
Skipped church last night and took SU to the DonKey for dinner. On the way home from work Tuesday, I’d stopped at the boutique and purchased some perfume for her as she’d run out. Decided to go for a new smell and picked up some J Lo Glow, I think. Anyways, after a nice dinner last night, she put some on and snuggled in. It was only then that I got a whiff of the stuff and the only thing that came to mind was Ivory Soap. Then the song started playing in my mind:
The Johnson’s had a baby, his name was Tiny Tim,
They put him in the bathtub, to see if he could swim,
He drank two tubs of water and ate two bars of soap,
Now the Johnson’s baby floats like Ivory Soap!
Not exactly romantic but hey, it was still a great evening! Gotta stop at that boutique again…….
So Big Jolly… I’ve noticed you call your dad “Pop”. Did you give him that name? The reason I ask is that my kids call my dad Pop, and neither my wife nor I ever called him that. Come to find out, my dad’s dad went by Pop also (we found out after our kids “named” my dad).
That is what he called his dad, my grandpa. I just kinda picked it up, my other siblings call him dad.
Hehe, I remember asking you the same question a few months ago, *Pop*! =)
