I was reading this article, First Read, that I just plain don’t watch television anymore. How weird is that? I mean, who the heck doesn’t watch television besides me? Even SU turns it on occasionally.
Why did I think about this? Because I didn’t really comphrehend the article! I couldn’t because I haven’t seen even one television commercial this political season! Again, I say, how weird is that? I recall the days of staring mindlessly at the box, laughing with the laff track, zoned completely out.
Even weirder is that when people ask me questions about whatever TV show is hot, they think I’m really, really strange when I have this blank look come over my face. I just plain don’t know. Then, you can see them kinda whisper to their companions like I’m some sort of freak or cult member. Freak, okay, I’ll buy that but cult member? Naw, I just decided one day that it was a waste of time. And it was for me. I don’t care if other people watch TV, it isn’t some type of religious thing, I just don’t watch it. Nor is it some kind of intellectual arrogance, I read plenty of trash fiction in its place. Been about 4 years now since I watched any regular TV.Sure, every once in a while I’ll watch a rerun of Law & Order but it’s probably been a year or more since I did that.
But don’t think I’ve avoided all of the politcial ads because I usually listen to Rush if I go out for lunch or Dan/Hannity/Savage on the drive home. I don’t know that this is really the worst year of all time for negative ads, but I gotta think that the “Vote Twice for Shelley” song is in the top 10 most annoying ads of all time! Really!
