today, very relaxing. SU and I slept in, then hung out around the house during the storm. Lots of wind, a bit of rain, no damage (which is always a possibility here when the winds pick up). Got a chance to work on my lesson plan for tomorrow, I think it will be a good one, it’s on Joy.
This afternoon we went over to Pops to check out his new camera, the Konica Minolta 7D. Very nice feel, easy to use menus and controls. But for a long time, the exposure was just way off. Except flash photos. Got to thinking, what could it be? Then, after a process of deduction, it occurred to me that perhaps the lens aperature was not stopping down, remaining fully open. That would account for the total overexposures outside, the okay but not great photos inside and the perfect flash pics (OTF metering for the flash!). And I was correct – although it was a “new” lens, it had sat in Pops closest for about 20 years, unopened, still in the packaging. Changed lenses to a 70-210 zoom and viola, perfect pics. I brought a memory card with me and took a couple on it, then came home, popped ’em into Photoshop, removed the red eye on one, cropped the other one, uploaded to Walgreens, then picked them up an hour later. Very cool. Good pics too.
Then tonight, after dinner at El Toro, we tried to watch a movie. First one supposedly had Denzel in it but it turns out that it was long before he was a star and he had a role, just not a featured one. And the movie was very lame and out of date. So we stopped that one and put in another one, forget the name but it had Jennifer Anniston in it and we thought it was a thriller. Turns out it was just another flick that makes me sick to my stomach, so we stopped that one and watched a bit of the news.
