Well, the Christmas celebration

David Jennings · December 25, 2006 · Leave a Comment

has come and gone once again. To be honest, I wasn’t much in the mood for celebrating Christmas this year. I don’t think (I hope) it has anything to do with the “reason for the season”, it has to do with the theft of it by our consumer vices. But it isn’t a new thing, this has been ongoing in America at least for over a hundred years. Europe is so dead to Christ that it must have been happening there much longer. At least since 1874. SU never got into the spirit either. Perhaps it has something to do with our children growing up, as I was completely enamored with a great-niece today. Whatever the reason, it just was “flat”.

And kinda bizarro at church Sunday. Started off in class, we combined with Pop’s group for a Christmas celebration. Except it was Easter. I’m thinkin’, what the heck is going on, did I miss something? Is this a time warp? We are reading scripture about the death on the cross and singing He Arose?? Huh? And it continued in the worship service, the pastor’s message was about the cross? Hello! Aren’t we forgetting something? Um, didn’t God Almighty come to earth in the flesh? Eh?

But SU and Pop thought I was nuts for not comprehending that Jesus is no longer in a manger, nor is He a babe. Ok, I guess. But I don’t get it, not celebrating the birth and all. Perhaps this is how the Orthodox and Catholics feel when we ignore Mary (Virgin Mary, Theotokos).

So anyways, lot’s of stuff happening. Went to the inlaws for Christmas Eve. Something has just gone out of that party, like steam out of a rusty hole. Way weird.

Still a tradition at the trailer to give the kids a stocking, this year it included the hero. That was cool. Then off to the laws for the traditional Christmas day lunch. Had a good time, got to sing carols and hold the great-niece. Cool. Took this picture with the Lumix. There was supposed to be a cross behind it (well there was but too much contrast washed it out). Still thought it was pretty cool. Just waitin’ out there in SSh’s backyard for me. Ramblin’ eh?
