fabulous! Wow, what an awesome day. Mostly, it was work that was great but the afternoon and evening at home was good too! Can’t beat that, now can you?
First, work. I had planned the week out so that we would have a breezy day and it worked out perfectly. Didn’t get to leave early as planned but that was no big thing because d’Boi and I just sat around and played guitars. That’s right, probably 3 1/2 hours worth of playing guitars. Not just any guitars but my electrics, with amps! Don’t get to do that very often, nowhere to play them, especially cranked up. So, in anticipation, I brought three guitars (Squier Strat, Washburn J-3 and Fender Contemporary Telecaster) and one amp (Roland JC-50), d’Boi brought his SRV strat and a Fender Deluxe that has been modded by Gerald Weber. My Squier has been radically modded, with Lindy Fralin Blues Special, modded by Callaham, pickups, vintage pots, vintage 5 way switch and a special setup by Jim at Lone Star Guitar Shop that included a custom spaced bone nut and conversion to a hardtail. Sweet, sweet strat, sounds and plays BETTER than d’Boi’s SRV. No kidding. Just ask d’Boi, who gave me the pickups, pots and switch, and Jim, who did a heckuva job on the setup.
So here we are in the shop, blasting away on a 12 bar blues and in walks a construction worker from across the bayou, wanting to know whats going on and can he listen! Ha, ha, that was a lot of fun. d’Boi can play, like, really good. And I can know play 12 bar rythmn at a decent level. Can’t play any type of lead at all but that’s allright, it’s still a lot of fun.
Came home and marinated some chicken thighs, then jumped in the pool to wait for SU. We sat outside with 1 for an hour or so, just enjoying the evening while the chicken smoked. I think the best part for SU and 1 was spraying the Buddy Boy with Off. Or, threatening to spray, all they had to do was hold up the can and he went back to his run. Topped off the evening by watching Triple XXX State of the Union.
What a glorious day!
